Deep Dive: Software Citation

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Moderator: Neil Chue Hong - Director, Software Sustainability Institute & Senior Research Fellow, EPCC, Software Sustainability Institute

The Deep Dive session will cover software citations: successes achieved, relevant work in the larger community, communication challenges that remain, and strategies for future work to meet those challenges and further improve. The discussion will provide an opportunity for session participants to share their feedback on the talks. We encourage participants to bring up any other barriers they encounter regarding software citation and to contribute their ideas for improvement.

Session Agenda:
  1. Speaker: Daniel S. Katz - Chief Scientist, NCSA, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
    Topic: Software Citation Implementation Progress
  2. Speaker: Melissa Harrison - Team Leader, Literature Services, EMBL European Bioinformatics Institute
    Topic: JATS4R Software citations recommendations
  3. Lightning talk: Stephan Druskat - Software Engineering Researcher, German Aerospace Center, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin
Topic: GitHub citation support via Citation File Format (CFF)
  4. Lightning talk: Jake Yeston - Editor, Science
Topic: Barriers to trackable software citation
  5. Lightning talk: Daina Bouquin - Head Librarian, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics
Topic: Upcoming IMLS-funded software citation workshop goals

Note: The FORCE11 Software Citation Implementation Work Group will also be hosting two Hackathon: pre-conference and post-conference.  If you are interested in participating in either/both, please see the schedule for more information.
