Panel: Governance Models of Open Infrastructure: Building Sustainability and Capacity
When open infrastructure projects attempt to shape a sustainable model, their key stakeholders look to transparency around governance. This session will explore a variety of governance models and examine how they support sustainability, both financial and scalability, to provide projects with a better long-term footing. Speakers from a variety of regions will discuss the impact of funders and funding models, local versus global issues, communication and collaboration strategies in the day-to-day activities and the long term mission of their organizations.

Panel: Bibliodiversity - introducing systemic changes in scholarly communications to support equity and inclusion
Bibliodiversity in scholarly communications has been in decline for several decades. Yet, we need a diversity in services and platforms, funding mechanisms, and evaluation measures in order to allow the scholarly communication system to accommodate the different workflows, languages, publication outputs, and research topics that support the needs and epistemic pluralism of different research communities. There are two other panels at Force11 focusing already on other systemic issues contributing to the current landscape: evaluation measures and funding mechanism. This panel will delve into the notion of a how a highly distributed and decoupled ecosystem can help scholarly communications become more inclusive. Panelists will present their ideas on the benefits of such an approach; explain how it can be implemented and scale across institutions, countries, and domains; and will present some specific examples of projects that are already under way.

Panel: Discoverability in (a) crisis
With millions of research outputs published each year, discoverability has become a huge challenge. The on-going pandemic has made this problem even more evident. Since the outbreak of the coronavirus, we have witnessed an explosion of scientific publications and data related to it, and researchers struggle to stay on top of this knowledge. In this session, we will explore the causes and effects of this discoverability crisis and how we can overcome it going forward. We will discuss these issues with an international panel of experts from research, research support and scholarly infrastructure. The panel will be interactive with ample time for questions and comments from the audience.

Panel: The future of research assessment in open science era
Communicating science is hard. That process is not getting any easier as the size and complexity of research data grows, the analytical techniques become increasingly sophisticated, and the problems we are trying to solve increase in complexity. As we have seen with issues that affect broad swaths of society such as COVID19 and climate change, we as scientists need to consider how to better garner trust in complex research that may affect the daily lives and/or health of the public. This panel will discuss the growing need of research assessment to include the communication of science to a variety of stakeholders: from fellow researchers to policy makers to citizens.
